PHF to lay 100 mini turfs at schools
KARACHI: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) will lay around 100 mini synthetic turfs at school level as part of its efforts to strengthen hockey at the grassroots level.
A survey of schools will be conducted for this from late July, ‘The News’ has learnt.
The PC 1 of the project is in final stage, a source said.
School hockey used to produce great players in the past, finding and grooming raw talent.
The PHF has sent a communiqué to provincial associations to inform them about this project.
Sources said that recommendations of provincial associations and the level of interest shown by schools would decide how this project would go forward.
It would be a five-year project, with long-term benefits, the sources said.
The PHF will prefer government-run schools which have enough enrolment and space available for mini turf.
But private schools would also be facilitated if their management showed willingness, a source said.
The selection of schools would be undertaken with the cooperation of provincial and district bodies, the source added.
