Four cops killed in Quetta
QUETTA: Four policemen were killed in separate attacks in country’s restive southwest, officials said Tuesday. In the first incident, a group of criminals ambushed a police party on Sariab Road in Quetta, as they were preparing to launch a raid.
The police driver and another officer were injured and died from their wounds before they could be transferred to a hospital. In the second attack, two gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at two police officers in a minority Hazara community area as they were going to buy food for their evening meal. Both policemen died on the spot.
Manzoor Sarwar, a senior police official in the city, said that authorities were investigating the attacks. Another police official Zahoor Afridi confirmed the causalities.
Meanwhile, President Mamnoon Hussain has condemned the firing incident in Quetta in which police personnel lost their lives. In a condolence message from Makkah, where the president has gone for Umrah, he expressed grief over the loss of policemen lives.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has also expressed sorrow over the loss of lives of police personnel who were targeted in Quetta. Sympathising with the bereaved families, the prime minister directed the authorities concerned to ensure best medical treatment to those injured during the attack, said a statement issued by Prime Minister House. He directed the concerned to hunt down the perpetrators behind the attack and those responsible for destroying peace in the city.
