Woman killed in road accident

BAHAWALPUR: A woman was killed and her husband suffered injuries in a road accident on Monday.
Muhammad Hussain and his wife Hanifan of Bakhshan Khan were riding a motorcycle when a speeding car hit them, leaving Hanifan dead on the spot and her husband injured in the area of Sadar police.
The car’s driver Ghulam Fareed was arrested and the vehicle was impounded.
FLOOD ARRANGEMENTS: Flood Emergency Officer Bahawalpur XEN Irrigation (Operation) Islam Mustafa Monday said his department has finalised flood fighting arrangements.
Talking to reporters, he said flood fighting material has been made available and stored at headworks Islam, Melsi Saifan and Panjnad.
DCO VISITS RAMAZAN BAZAAR: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Bahawalpur Dr Ehtisham Anwr Mahaar visited Ramazan Bazaar Meley Wali Gali, Bahawalpur city.
The DCO inspected different stalls and checked quality and prices of food stuff.
Martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali (RA) observed

BAHAWALPUR: Martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali (RA) was observed in Bahawalpur division on Monday amid strict security.
Some 2,500 security personnel were deployed in Bahawalpur region for the security of processions and Majalis.
In Bahawalpur district, five processions were taken out and 36 Majalis were held. About 700 security personnel performed security duty and till the filing of this report all processions and Majalis were completed peacefully in Bahawalpur district.
Thana culture to be changed: Minister

BAHAWALPUR: Minister of State for Higher Education and Interior Engineer Baligh-ur-Rehman Monday said the Punjab government’s initiative of front desks at police stations would change centuries’ old thana culture.
He stated this while inspecting the working of front desk at PS Kotwali, Bahawalpur City. He said the front desks would not only dispose of complaints of citizens speedily but would also promote people-friendly police culture. Regional Police Officer Dr Ehsan Sadiq, Additional SP Ghulam Murtaza, Convener Citizen Police Liaison Committee Dr Rana Muhammad Tariq, Members of CPLC were also present. The minister was briefed on functioning of the desk. The RPO said some 210 police stations in Punjab have the facility of front desks and 15 desks had started functioning in Bahawalpur region. He said the initiative would accelerate the pace of modernizing the conceptual and operational framework of police to expedite redressal of grievances and complaints of citizens. The RPO said process of computerization of the record of police stations was underway and these would be available online very soon. Later, the minister visited different sections of the PS.
INJURED ROBBER OVERPOWERED: Shopkeepers Monday overpowered an injured robber.
Reportedly, two motorcyclist robbers barged into a in utility store on Gulberg Road and started firing. However, the staff of the store resisted and overpowered one robber when he was injured owing to a bullet. The bandit was identified as Ali Channar of Basti Burriyan. The second robber fled with cash.
