‘Through Pakistan: an artistic journey’ exhibition opens at PNCA
Islamabad:The vibrant tapestry of South Asian artistic expression is taking centre stage at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) with the opening of the ‘Through Pakistan: An Artistic Journey’ exhibition. This unique showcase, a collaborative effort between the PNCA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Pakistani diplomatic missions in the Maldives and Nepal, unveils the captivating works of artists-in-residence from these two neighbouring nations.
For the past month, Bidhata KC from Nepal, alongside Aishath Laisha Saud and Mariyam Barsha Mohamed from the Maldives, have immersed themselves in the rich cultural landscape and artistic heritage of Pakistan's major cities. Their residency culminated in a collection of thought-provoking and visually engaging pieces, now on display at Gallery #6 of the PNCA National Art Gallery in Islamabad.
The exhibition, which officially opens on Monday (May 5), 2025, at 2 p.m. offers a window into the artists’ interpretations of their experiences in Pakistan. Their diverse perspectives, shaped by their own cultural backgrounds and the new environment, promise a compelling dialogue between artistic traditions.
This initiative underscores the commitment of the Pakistan government to fostering cultural exchange and strengthening ties within the South Asian region. By providing a platform for artists from neighbouring countries, the residency program and subsequent exhibition aim to promote understanding and appreciation for the diverse artistic voices that enrich the region.
Art enthusiasts, diplomats, and members of the public are invited to attend the opening event and witness first-hand the creative outcomes of this enriching artistic journey. The exhibition is expected to serve as a testament to the power of art in bridging cultures and fostering a deeper sense of regional connection.
