OKARA: Gogera police arrested 16 members of two families to avoid a clash between them over a love marriage issue at Chak 26/GD on Friday.
SHO Mirza Alamgir arrested eight members of Amir Iqbal family, including his father Amanat Ali, Mubarik Ali, Younas Ali, Omar Hayat, Zakir Hussain, Syed Ghulam Dastgir and Zafar Iqbal, and eight members of Shakeela Bibi’s family, including her father Ali Sher.
It is worth mentioning that Shakeela Bibi had contracted court marriage with Amir Iqbal on May 29 against the will of her family.
Later, a panchayat was called in which Amir Iqbal’s family promised to give the hand of Amir’s sister Tahira Bibi at the age of puberty as at present she was just 13, but Shakeela’s family insisted for Nikah, which was refused. To it, Shakeela’s family took oath in a village mosque to kill Amir and Shakeela for honour. The 16 men were arrested under Section 107/151 of the CrPC.
