CM Ramazan package benefits millions: minister

BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Minister for Cooperatives Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar Friday said millions of consumers were being provided economic relief through the Punjab Chief Minister’s Ramazan package.
The minister visited Ramazan Bazaars at Model Bazaar and Meley Wali Gali and checked quality and prices of basic items of different stalls. He said that adequate sugar and flour were available at fair price shops at concessionary rates. During the minister’s visit, the consumers expressed satisfaction availability of daily-use items at Ramazan Bazaars.
VICTIM RESPONSE OFFICERS AWARDED: Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer Dr Ehsan Sadiq Friday gave away certificates of appreciation and cash awards to a group of Victim Response Officers in a ceremony held at his conference room.
On the occasion, the RPO said crime rate had declined in the range owing to dedicated and committed endeavor of the officers. He said police officers were making all-out efforts to purge society of crime. He said 72 Victim Response Officers managed to resolve more than 26,000 cases of minor crimes through mutual consent of contestants by mobilizing the services of members of the local community. The RPO urged the officers to perform their duties diligently.
Later, he gave away certificates of appreciation and cash awards to Victim Response Officers of three districts of Bahawalpur.
Name of officers include Hamatta Ram, Ghulam Ghaus, Muhammad Makki, Muhammad Anwar, Muhammad Arif from district Rahim Yar Khan, Toseeq Ahmad, Muhammad Arshad, Ahsan Zia, Matloob Ahmad and Muhammad Afzal from district Bahawalnagar and Muhammad Qasim, Mushtaq Ahmad from district Bahawalpur and former VROs Imran Kareem Gillani, Javed Iqbal and Siraj Ahmad.
Man commits suicide over marriage issue

BAHAWALPUR: A 25-year-old man committed suicide over a marriage issue here on Thursday night.
Rizwan Ahmad of Mohallah Chaudhrian ended his life by jumping in Shashmahi Canal near Airport after quarrelling with his family over a marriage issue.
According to Rizwan’s mother, he went with his friend Faisal and took the extreme step. Baghdadul Jadeed police, however, took Faisal into custody and were interrogating him. The body of Rizwan was recovered by Rescue-1122 divers on Friday afternoon.
MAN ELECTROCUTED: A man was electrocuted near Chishtian on Friday. Zulfiqar Ahmad, a devotee of Hazrat Noor Muhammad Chishti, received electric shocks when a wire fell on him on Darbar Road. As a result, he died on the spot.
YOUTH DROWNS: A youth drowned in a swimming pool near Bahawalnagar on Thursday night.
Zahid Shahzad was taking bath in a swimming pool at Jattoowala when he drowned.
