No compromise on quality of flour: minister

FAISALABAD: Punjab Food Minister/Chairman Cabinet Committee for Price Control Bilal Yasin Tuesday said under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Ramazan Bazaars were being held successfully across the province to provide basic commodities to consumers on reduced rates.

The minister stated this while inspecting Ramazan Bazaars established at Riaz Shahid Chowk New Civil Lines, Faizan-e-Madina Chowk Susan Road and other areas, where he also check quality and prices of commodities.

DCO Salman Ghani, AC Rafia Haider, TMOs Mian Nadeem Anwar, Naeemullah Wariach, DFC Amjad Majeed Gondal and other officers were also present. He also talked to consumers and asked them about quality of essential items.

The minister said provincial ministers and other machinery of the Punjab government had been mobilised by the CM for the monitoring of Ramazan Bazaars to ensure best commodities and administrative arrangements for visitors.

Later, the minister inspected flour stall and checked weight of flour bags and flour quality. He asked relevant officials maintain supply and quality of flour at every cost. The minister said no compromise would be made on quality of flour. He directed special arrangements for senior citizens, disabled and women. The DCO informed the minister that some 19 Ramazan Bazaars were working in the district and comprehensive mechanism was being followed to check demand and supply of essential commodities. He said a daily review meeting was being held in the evening to discuss smooth running of the Ramazan Bazaars.

 

Four killed in Faisalabad road accidents

FAISALABAD: Four people, including two labourers, were killed in three road accidents here.

In the first incident, Shahid Ali (18) and Nasir Ahmad (20) were on their way when a rickshaw hit them on Judgewala Road at Razabad, killing them on the spot. The people overpowered the rickshaw driver and thrashed him. Later, he was handed over to police.

In the second incident, Nawaz Qazi was killed when a motorcycle hit him near Mananwala. He was checking tyres of his vehicle when the accident took place. He was a resident of Malkhanwala and was coming to Faisalabad from Lahore.

In the third incident, Talib Hussain of Chak 117/JB was on his way when a rickshaw hit his motorcycle near Roshanwali Jhal. As a result, he was killed on the spot.

KILLER GETS DEATH: Additional Sessions Judge Rana Shaukat Ali Khan awarded death sentence and Rs 400,000 fine to Ibrar Ahmad of Chak 25/JB in a murder case. According to the prosecution, the convict had gunned down Nasir Ali over a land dispute on March 11, 2012.

GIRL DROWNS: A four-year-old girl drowned in a canal near D-Type Colony on Monday evening.

Samia’s mother put her in a basket after tying it with a plastic pipe along a canal bank. Unfortunately, the pipe was broken and Samia along with the basket swept away and drowned. Her body could not be recovered till the filing of the report.

MAN ELECTROCUTED: A man was electrocuted at Ahmadabad.

Nawaz Qazi was working in his house when he received an electric shock. As a result, he fell unconscious. He was shifted to the Allied Hospital where he died.

 

Man jailed in desecration case

FAISALABAD: Anti-Terrorism Court Special Judge Raja Pervaiz Akhtar on Tuesday awarded four-year imprisonment and Rs 100,000 fine to Muhammad Moavia of Ali Town in a case of circulating desecration matter on social media.

According to the prosecution, the convict had circulated the defamatory matter on social media on April 26. He was booked by the CTD.

 

Two activists of defunct outfit detained

FAISALABAD: Two activists of a defunct outfit have been detained in the Central Jail for a period of 90 days. They are a local businessman and Bashir Ahmad of Lal Chowk.

 

Woman poisons husband to death

FAISALABAD: A woman poisoned her husband to death at Akbar village in Bhalik police limits.

A landowner, Muhammad Ali Mohal, had recently contracted marriage with Shahida. He doubted the character of his wife and reprimanded her. On Tuesday, Shahida allegedly served poison-mixed milk to her husband and he died instantly. Police are investigating.
