Street crime continues to claim lives in Karachi, with the latest incident leaving one person dead and another injured. This marked the seventh fatality this year linked to resistance during robberies.

In a robbery attempt near Jamaatkhana, close to Ashu Apartments in the Soldier Bazaar area on Tuesday, one of the robbers accidentally shot and killed his own accomplice and injured two citizens they were attempting to mug. The shooter managed to escape the scene.

According to the police, the robbers fired upon the victims when they resisted the mugging. The gunfire resulted in the death of the robber’s accomplice, identified as Abdullah, while both victims were injured. The wounded, 33-year-old Tahir, son of Mir Ilyas, later succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital. The second injured individual, Saddam, remained hospitalised.

The victims, cousins from Balochistan, were residents of Soldier Bazaar and were engaged in the import-export business. Tahir, who was married, was on his way to visit friends with his cousin when they were targeted by the robbers. Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
