The Sindh Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution to show solidarity with the oppressed Kashmiri brethren in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir.
The resolution was passed on the eve of Kashmir Solidarity Day commemorated in Pakistan every year on February 5. The resolution was jointly moved by treasury and opposition legislators belonging to the Pakistan Peoples Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Jamaat-e-Islami.
The resolution expressed solidarity with the innocent and unarmed Kashmiri brethren in occupied Kashmir who have been enduring atrocities at the hands of Indian forces. It also demanded implementing the United Nations resolutions on the Kashmir issue to resolve it amicably.
The concerned lawmakers from the treasury and opposition benches who spoke on the resolution paid rich tributes to the decades-long peaceful struggle of the Kashmiri brethren in occupied Kashmir for their long-denied right to self-determination. The MPAs said the Indian occupation forces had been brutally denying the fundamental rights of the oppressed Kashmiris who often faced unprovoked violence and high-handedness.
Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah said that Kashmir was historically a part of the Indus Valley Civilisation. He said Pakistan’s claim on the Kashmir dispute was historically true. He said that India had been using brute force and oppression to maintain its unjust occupation of Kashmir. He said the right to self-determination should be given to the oppressed Kashmiris at the earliest.
PPP MPA Heer Soho recalled that former prime ministers Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto during their regimes had been active in highlighting the Kashmir issue for the international community.
PTI MPA Shabbir Qureshi said independence and autonomy should be granted to the oppressed Kashmiris in occupied Kashmir as per their fundamental rights. MQM lawmaker Fauzia Hameed lamented that Kashmiris had been brutally murdered when they demanded the fulfilment of their basic rights. Later, the Sindh Assembly’s session was prorogued.
