Maid ‘tortures’ employer’s newborn, takes away cash, gold

LAHORE:A maid allegedly tortured her employer's newborn and fled after stealing jewellery and cash from a house in Askari 10, North Cantt. According to the complainant, Matloob Zafar, his wife reprimanded the maid, identified as Saima, for not cleaning the house properly. In retaliation, the suspect allegedly attempted to kill the newborn by gagging the child with a piece of cloth before escaping with gold ornaments and cash. North Cantt police have registered a case against the absconding suspect, Saima, on the complaint of Matloob Zafar.

Drug dealers, arms carriers held

Lahore police arrested drug peddlers and illicit arms carriers from different parts of the City. Mobile Squad arrested four illicit arms carriers at Ravi Bridge and recovered four rifles from them. Batapur police arrested a drug pusher and recovered 1.5kg charas from his possession. Gujarpur police arrested a drug peddler and recovered 1kg ice from his possession. Dolphin Squad arrested seven drug pushers and recovered 22 bottles of liquor. Naseerabad police arrested a drug peddler and recovered 4kg charas from him. Meanwhile, Ghalib Market police arrested seven persons, including seven women, from different brothels.

Fire erupts at two places

Fire erupted at two places in City on Tuesday. The fire broke out in a hostel near a college. The second fire incident happened at a residential property near Mazang Adda, Kot Abdullah. Firefighters of Rescue 1122 controlled the fire. Authorities have yet to confirm the causes of the fire incidents. No casualties have been reported so far.

Two die on road in 24 hours

The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,331 road accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. In these accidents, two people died, whereas 1,494 were injured. Out of these, 605 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 889 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.
