PESHAWAR: Adviser to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif on Friday condemned the amendments to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 (PECA Act).
“The amendments are an attack on press freedom,” he said in a statement. Barrister Dr. Saif accused the federal government of using black laws to strip the media of its freedom. He claimed the government’s intention is to hide its dark deeds from the media. Barrister Dr. Saif also pointed out that the government has already attacked the judiciary’s freedom through the 26th Amendment, and now it has taken away press freedom as well.
He said that no institution has been spared from destruction under the federal government, with restrictions imposed that are even worse than those seen in the darkest dictatorships. He assured that he stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the journalist community against this black law.
