Under-trial prisoner killed in ‘encounter’

OKARA: A criminal was killed in an alleged encounter with police here.
According to a press release issued by the police, Naveed alias Kali involved in murder and dacoity cases, was arrested by Renala Khurd city police. He was in police custody on physical remand.
The police was taking him to arrest his accomplice Shahsawar alias Tukli at village 31/1AL. When the police party was returning, near village 14/1L adjacent to Pir Di Hatti, four gunmen motorcyclists intercepted the police van, and snatched Naveed from the police. The SI on mobile phone requested more police force. In response to the message, SHO PS city Renala Khurd reached the spot and near village 13/1L the police spotted the gunmen, who fired at the police. The police retaliated and after the shoot-out of 30 minutes, police found an injured criminal who died after few minutes.
SI Muhammad Hussain identified the man as Naveed alias Kali.
DPO Muhammad Faisal Rana constituted a police team under the SDPO Renala Khurd to trace and arrest the other criminals.
TWO KILLED IN ACCIDENT: A man and a woman were killed in a road accident on the Pakpattan-Depalpur highway on Saturday.
Zafar, Shamim and Aiysha Bibi were heading from Pakpattan to Depalpur on a motorcycle. When they reached near Adda Sukhpur a trailer hit them, leaving Zafar and Shamim Bibi dead on the spot and Aiysha wounded, who was rushed to hospital.
Wind storm kills man

OKARA: A man died and 12 others, including two women, sustained critical injuries in a wind storm related incidents on Friday night.
Reportedly, Yaqoob Masih, 60, of village 36-37/2RA was heading home from his fields on his bicycle and due to windstorm he lost his balance and fell down and struck his head with paved road and died instantly.
In village 24/GD during the wind storm the roof of the house of Boota Sulehria collapsed, injuring Sajid 15, and his brother Nazeer 13.
In village Bahmaniwala near Goger, four people were injured.
At Gogera near bus-stand the boundary wall of a house collapsed, leaving five passers-by, including two women, wounded.
The wind storm uprooted trees and signboards. It broke electricity wires, leaving the area without power supply.
