On the directions of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has implemented new standard operating procedures (SOPs) to promptly address public concerns.
The KWSC spokesperson announced that citizens can now report issues related to open manholes or damaged ring slabs 24/7 by calling the helpline number 1334 or contacting the relevant division. Under the new procedures, the responsible executive engineer must provide and install manhole covers within 12 to 24 hours of receiving a complaint.
The engineer must also submit a report on the installation to the superintendent and chief engineer for sewage and update the helpline staff on the resolution status. The KWSC warned that failure to comply with these SOPs without valid reasons would result in the executive engineer being held accountable.
The spokesperson added that these SOPs aim to prioritise and resolve public complaints effectively, improving the overall efficiency of the sewage system. These measures reflect KWSC’s commitment to providing better facilities for Karachi’s residents.
