A Pakistan Coast Guard (PCG) officer, who was critically injured earlier this week near Kathore on the M9 Motorway, passed away while undergoing treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Friday.

The officer, identified as Naib Subedar Adil, was injured during a snap-checking operation carried out by Coast Guard officials in response to reports of smuggling activities. The incident occurred when a car traveling from Karachi to Hyderabad on the motorway was stopped near Ansari Bridge.

The driver of the vehicle, upon being flagged down, switched to the wrong lane, heading back towards Karachi, and attempted to flee the scene. In the process of escaping, the driver struck Adil, leaving him severely injured.

The driver abandoned the car a short distance away and managed to escape on foot. The injured officer was first taken to Baqai Hospital for initial treatment and was later transferred to the JPMC, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Upon inspection, the abandoned car was found to contain 41 sacks of betel nuts and 100 packets of gutka, confirming suspicions of smuggling. A case was registered at the Gadap police station based. The police were actively investigating the incident and working to apprehend the suspect responsible for the officer’s death.
