Islamabad: The education ministry will host a two-day international conference on girls' education here today (Saturday).

The moot, themed ‘Girls’ Education in Muslim Communities: Challenges and Opportunities,’ will be opened by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with a keynote address and reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to advancing girls' education and gender equality, according to ministry officials.

They said the conference would be attended by over 150 international dignitaries, including ministers, ambassadors, scholars and representatives from international organisations like Unesco, Unicef, and the World Bank.

The officials said the event would highlight the barriers to girls’ education in Muslim communities worldwide while promoting dialogue and practical solutions. It is also aimed at creating a space for high-level discussions and collaborations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will open the event with a keynote address and reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to advancing girls' education and gender equality. The conference will conclude with the signing of the Islamabad Declaration, a commitment by the Muslim world to empower girls through education and pursue inclusive, sustainable educational reforms.

The officials said the groundbreaking event would unite educators, policymakers and community leaders to tackle challenges and explore opportunities for improving girls' education globally.

They said the discussions would focus on overcoming obstacles to girls' education, the role of culture and faith in learning, innovative solutions and success stories, and building partnerships between governments, NGOs, and communities to empower young women, promote equality, and shape a brighter, more inclusive future.
