The Karachi police are employing new strategies to stop citizens from firing in the air on the arrival of the New Year.

One such strategy is using mosques to issue public announcements telling the people not to engage in firing during New Year celebrations. Announcements are being made from mosques across the city asking the citizens to not fire in the air.

People are also being warned of action such as registration of FIRS in case they resort to celebratory gunfire. In some areas such announcements are being made from mosques’ loudspeakers by mosque staff but in other areas policemen are themselves making such announcements.
