Two die in road accidents

HAFIZABAD: Two people were killed in two road accidents on Wednesday.
According to police, PPP leader Dr Shah Muhammad Awan of Mangat Neecha was on the way to Hafizabad on a motorbike, when he reached near the Gujranwala Road a speeding car hit him and injured him critically. He was shifted to DHQ Hospital from where he was referred to Lahore where he died.
Zohaib Ahmad and his sister Amina Bibi were riding a motorcycle and when they reached near Jurian, a van hit them, leaving Zohaib dead on the spot and Amina wounded critically. She was shifted to DHQ Hospital Hafizabad from where she was referred to Lahore.
QUALITY THINGS AT LOWER RATES: Provincial Secretary Management and Professional Development Department Nadeem Irshad Kayani Wednesday said rush at Sasta Ramazan Bazaar was a clear proof that consumers were being provided with quality commodities in abundance at cheaper rates.
Visiting the Sasta Ramazan Bazaar in Hafizabad, he enquired about prices and quality of different edibles and expressed his satisfaction over the provision of the standard articles at the Bazaar.
He appreciated efforts of the district administration for taking keen interest in the provision of different commodities. He, however, directed the administration to continue their efforts for ensuring the commodities to the consumers till the last day of fasting.
FUNDS FOR VANIKE TARAR: The provincial government has allocated huge funds for sewerage, potable water and infrastructures to make Vanike Tarar a model village.
The Public Health Engineering Department had accorded the contract for sewerage system for which Rs 17.6 million had been allocated but recently the department has transferred this fund to other villages as a result of which the contractor has abandoned the uplift work.
The villagers urged the Commissioner Gujranwala to order an inquiry into unlawful transfer of the funds and to ensure completion of the ongoing project in Vanike Tarar.
FOUR ‘THIEVES’ HELD: Police have arrested four accused on charges of stealing 412 sacks of crop from the godown of a trader of Rasulpur Tarar.
Police arrested accused Sikandar Hayat, Imdad, Nasir and Umar Hayat who had stole 412 sacks worth Rs 670,000 of a trader.
According to police, the accused had administered drugged drink to the watchman before stealing the sacks.
