Inspector, clerk face action for harassing lady cop

SUKKUR: Sanam Parveen Brohi, incharge of the Women Protection Cell of Qambar SSP Office, has accused Inspector Riaz Soomro, incharge of the Establishment Branch of SSP Office, and Head Clerk Sikandar Lashari of harassing her.

The police authorities have suspended the two officials and have appointed an SP to probe the matter.

In a viral video, Sanam said she had been incharge of the Women Protection Cell for five years. She demanded justice, alleging that she was harassed by the two officials. She said Riaz had been posted to the SSP Office for many years. He also works as a sheet clerk. He has been pressuring her to have a ‘relationship’ with him. Few days ago, he sent a message to a lady official working in her department, telling her to tell Madam to have a ‘relationship’ with him or she will be removed from her post.

She said in the video that after the SSP was transferred on December 6, Riaz conspired with Sikandar to issue a fake letter and replace her with another woman as incharge of the Women Protection Cell.

She appealed to the Sindh IGP and the Larkana DIG to take notice. She demanded legal action against the two officials who ‘keep harassing women police officers who visit them for verification and other tasks’.

When contacted, Riaz said false allegations had been leveled at him.

DIG Larkana Nasir Aftab Pathan, taking notice of the harassment allegation, has ordered a probe and appointed the SP Investigation Larkana as inquiry officer.
