PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have sought legal opinion on an application submitted by the provincial government at the East Cantt Police Station in the provincial capital for lodging a case against the inspector general of police Islamabad and 600 other policemen, it has been learnt.

A source informed that the application has been submitted by the State House Officer (SHO) following a decision of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet. The police force would send the application to the legal branch of the force to check the legal grounds of the case before lodging any case.

A source informed that the application asked for registration of a case against IGP Islamabad and around and over 600 of his cops following an incident on October 5 when the KP House in Islamabad was allegedly damaged while many cops and officials of other departments of the KP were arrested and case lodged against them.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet had decided last month to lodge a first information report (FIR) against the Islamabad police chief for “raiding” the provincial government’s building during the PTI’s protest in Islamabad.

The decision was taken by the provincial cabinet in a session chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. The Islamabad Police had lodged cases against a number of KP policemen, Rescue 1122 officials and others for creating law and order situation in the federal capital in October when the PakistanTehreek-e-Insaf workers led by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur marched towards the capital for the release of former prime minister Imran Khan.
