PESHAWAR: Commissioner, Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mahsud on Sunday led a decisive operation against the illegal re-establishment of a fish market in Ghanta Ghar area in the inner-city.
Acting on his directives, the district administration sealed 12 shops, arrested their owners, and handed over 317 kilograms of confiscated fish to welfare organizations. Riaz Mahsud reiterated that violators would face strict daily actions as an alternative market with modern facilities has already been provided in Chamkani.
In response to public complaints, Riaz Mahsud ordered the operation after reports emerged that shops had been reopened despite prior enforcement. Earlier in the week, the administration had sealed shops, arrested eight individuals, and distributed 134 kilograms of confiscated fish to Zamung Kor, a welfare organization. However, traders resumed their activities on Sunday, prompting swift action.
Assistant Commissioner, Peshawar Cantt, Syed Basharat Hussain and Additional Assistant Commissioner, Headquarters, Amir Shehzad, supported by local police, carried out the operation. The confiscated fish was handed over to Al-Khidmat Foundation, Edhi Foundation, and Aghosh Welfare Organization.
“The government has provided a fully equipped market in Chamkani for fish trading, and we will not tolerate any violations in the inner city,” said Commissioner Riaz Khan Mahsud. “Those attempting to bypass the law will face action every single day until compliance is ensured.” The arrested shop owners will be presented before the commissioner, with officials warning that strict enforcement will continue against violators.
