KARACHI: Pakistani runner Amjad Ali on Saturday stated that “Government-level support for athletes is negligible.” He said that despite his brilliant performance at the Istanbul Marathon, no one acknowledged his efforts.
“I participated in various marathon competitions at my own expense, raising the Pakistan flag high at the international events,” he added. Amjad urged both the government and private institutions to step forward and provide sponsorships to athletes.
He expressed his gratitude to RK Sports for recognising his achievements and presenting him with a trophy for his recent efforts in the Istanbul Marathon. He emphasised that such recognition boosts the motivation to perform even better. Amjad Ali completed the 42-km race in 2:49:29, emerging as Pakistan’s fastest finisher at the Istanbul Marathon event.
