Dacoit killed in Hafizabad encounter

HAFIZABAD: A dacoit was killed in an encounter with police on Shah Jamal Road near Saroopwala on Saturday.
According to police, Fayyaz s/o Muhammad Aslam of Chattha Dad was coming to the city when three dacoits snatched a motorcycle from him near Chattha Dad Canal Bridge. The victim immediately informed police, who rushed to the spot and started chasing the dacoits.
Seeing police, the dacoits opened fire on them. Police also retaliated. As a result, one of the three dacoits, who was later identified as Shabbir Ahmad of Faisalabad, was killed on the spot while the others managed to escape.
POWER LOADSHEDDING: The people of the district on Saturday experienced the worst power breakdown, creating multiple problems for them.
The power supply was disrupted at 9am and was restored at 5:30pm. According to the Gecpo authorities, the breakdown was caused due to a serious fault in the Nokhar grid station. The citizens have demanded the Gepco take pity on them and ensure smooth supply of electricity during the hot weather.

70,000 educators on merit: Mashhood

HAFIZABAD: We should learn lessons from the social and economic progress of China, Korea and other developed countries, said Provincial Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan.
Addressing a gathering at the Jinnah Hall here on Saturday, he said that the provincial government believed in merit and there was no quota fixed for politicians for government jobs while the Punjab government was recruiting 70,000 educators on merit through the NTS. The minister said that 30,000 additional classrooms were being constructed in the schools throughout the province while dangerous buildings of schools were also being repaired/reconstructed on priority at a cost of billions of rupees. He said that the federal and Punjab governments had launched new projects for generating 16,000 megawatts and the projects would be completed by the end of 2017. He said that the Punjab government had provided record non-salary budget of Rs 14 billion first time in the history on the basis of performance of schools and teachers.
Moreover, the school councils were being reconstituted for better performance of the schools, he added. The minister said that the government had established the Punjab Education Endowment Fund with Rs 12 billion for providing scholarships to the promising students and a big amount was also being distributed among the positions holders of the Chief Minister’s Literary Programme in the province.
Later, the minster inaugurated a computer laboratory in the Government High School No-1. He also distributed cash prizes among the position holders of the Chief Minister’s Literary Programme at the Government High School No-2. The minister visited the Government Boys College and reviewed its security arrangements.
