Directives to provide information under RTI
From Our Correspondent
JHANG: Punjab Information Commissioner Mukhtar Ahmad through a directive No AD (A&C) PIC 2-87/2016 has ordered the Buildings district officer to provide information to a citizen under the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act 2013.
In a petition, Dr Riaz Naul stated that the residence of the district nazim/District Council chairman was allotted to the then ADC last year. The complainant alleged that a project of Rs 1.5 million was approved for provision of furniture, LCD and other luxury items in the house in violation of rules and regulations of the Punjab government. He said that when the high-ups concerned took notice of the project, it was converted into construction of walls, gate, etc.
The applicant said that he demanded the Buildings district officer provide him photocopies of the first estimate along with tender and work order, suspension order of previous sub-engineer of the project and copies of completion of the project along with final bill of payment but to no avail.
When contacted, acting Buildings District Officer Dr Rizwan Nazir said that the project was prepared and executed by his predecessor. He, however, said that the application about information to a citizen was being processed by the deputy district officer and sub-engineer of the project.
