Pakistani outfits crash out of ACBS Team Event Snooker
KARACHI: Both the Pakistani outfits crashed in the knockout phase of the ACBS Team Event Snooker Championship 2016 which will be concluding with the title clash between Iran and India in Abu Dhabi on Thursday (today).
According to the information made available by the Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA) here on Wednesday, Pakistan-1, featuring Mohammad Asif and Asjad Iqbal, who edged out Pakistan-2, comprising of Mohammad Bilal and Babar Masih, in the quarter-finals succumbed to the Indians in the semi-finals later in the evening.
Much to the dismay of their supporters, the two Pakistani teams were drawn to clash with each other in the quarters and Pakistan-2, which had remained unbeaten in the league phase, was eliminated at the hands of their own compatriots.
The duo of Mohammad Asif and Asjad Iqbal, who suffered defeat against Malaysia in their last league outing after having succumbed to defeat in their last game, overpowered the pair of Mohammad Bilal and Babar Masih 3-2 with the frame scores of 61-16, 67-60, 33-90, 0-93, 67-57.
Pakistan-2, having fared better than Pakistan-1 in the preliminary rounds as they blew the whistle on Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Iran-1, lost the battle narrowly in the fifth and final frame of quarter-finals.
India proved too good for Pakistan-1 in the semi-finals as they pocketed the best of five-frame contest decisively with the frame scores of 73-16, 83-25, 92-8.
India’s opponents in the final will be Iran-1, whom Pakistan-2 had outsmarted in the league fixture.
