Three minor children lost their lives and around 20 others were injured when two vehicles collided on the Northern Bypass on Thursday. Meanwhile, a motorcyclist was killed and another injured after a speeding truck hit their motorcycle on the ICI Bridge.
The tragic accident on the Northern Bypass took place near the Toll Plaza where a collision between a Shahzore truck and a trailer resulted in the deaths of two children and injuries to around 20 people.
Police said the accident happened when the trailer struck rammed into the Shahzore truck from behind, causing injuries to the passengers travelling in the latter that was going from rural Sindh to Balochistan.
Following the accident, police and rescue workers reached the location and transported the casualties to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Three children lost their lives in the accident. They were identified as eight-year-old Ghulam Hussain, son of Allah Dino; four-year-old boy Shamshad, son of Zahid Hussain; and one-year-old Qaim, son of Zahid Hussain.
The injured persons included Farman Ali, 20, son of Taj; Zahid Hussain, 24, son of Rustam Khan; Adnan Khan, 40, son of Urs; Liaqat Ali, 55, son of Dildar; Rashid, 13, son of Saleh; seven-year-old Mehrunnisa, daughter of Saleh; Farhan, 10, son of Abdul Rauf; Reshma, 18, wife of Farman; Fahad Mustafa, 10, son of Saleh; Jhanda, 25, son of Noor; Hanifa, 55, wife of Taj; five-year-old Shehnaz, daughter of Rajab; Rabeel, 20, wife of Javed; Khadija, 35, wife of Abdul Rauf; Mehnaz, 35, wife of Rajab; Shazia, 21, daughter of Adnan; five-year-old Anas, son of Abdul Rauf; two-year-old Rashid, son of Zahid; and seven-year-old Zeeshan, son of Adnan. A case has been registered and investigations are under way.
Separately, a motorcyclist was killed and another injured after a speeding trailer truck ran them over on the ICI Bridge.
The accident took place near the Docks police station while the motorcyclists were traveling from the Native Jetty Bridge towards ICI Chowrangi.
Following the accident, police and rescue volunteers reached the scene and transported the casualties to the Civil Hospital, Karachi, where the deceased man was identified as 30-year-old Saddam, son of Abdul Rauf, who hailed from Tharparkar, and the injured person was identified as 24-year-old Fahad Sabir.
Police said the injured man was a bike rider working for a ride hailing company and the deceased had booked an online motorcycle ride. The accident also caused damage to three rickshaws, a car and a passenger Mazda. Police arrested the truck driver and impounded the vehicle. A case has been registered.
