50 arrested after celebratory gunfire leaves 95 injured

Around 95 persons were injured in Karachi on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday as some elements resorted to celebratory gunfire to celebrate Independence Day.

Later, law enforcers attempted to control the situation and arrested around 50 suspects.

Many areas of the city echoed with intense firing and firecrackers as soon as the clock struck midnight. A large number of enthusiastic youth headed towards the sea and displayed a grand fireworks show, while in various areas, the celebration with firecrackers and aerial firing continued late into the night. Unfortunately, 70 people were injured due to aerial firing across the city. Meanwhile, severe traffic jams were reported on several main roads.

The ages of the injured ranged from five to 70 years. They were taken to different hospitals, including the Civil Hospital Karachi, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

A 16-year-old boy named Momin was injured in Liaquatabad and a 60-year-old man named Naeem was injured near Disco Bakery in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. A 36-year-old man, Mehboob, and 30-year-old woman, Quratul Ain, were injured in Nazimabad.

A 55-year-old man, Daud, was injured near Shah Bhattai Road, Kalri. In the Sohrab Goth area near Sikandar Goth, eight-year-old Sultan, son of Bahadur, was injured and his condition was reported to be critical. Similar incidents occurred across the city, including Sharifabad, Jamshed Quarters, Rizvia Colony, Pak Colony, Mahmoodabad, Baloch Colony and other areas. The injured were shifted to various hospitals, where some were discharged after treatment.
