Woman commits suicide

LAHORE : A married woman committed suicide by hanging herself from a fan in the Navankot area on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Mehak. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and collected the forensic evidence from the spot. The reason behind the suicide was yet to be ascertained. The police shifted the body to the morgue.

17 die in road accidents in Punjab

The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,245 road traffic accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. In these accidents, 17 people died, whereas 1,332 were injured. Out of these, 622 people with serious injuries were shifted to hospitals, while 710 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.

Injured robber held

Badami Bagh police apprehended a suspected robber who was found in an injured condition following an exchange of gunfire. Badami Bagh police signalled two individuals to stop for checking purpose. However, instead of complying, one of the suspects opened fire on the officers. During the exchange of fire, Waris Ali, the second suspect, was shot by his accomplice. The police arrested Waris and transported him to a hospital.

197 drug pushers arrested

Punjab police teams conducted 344 raids on drug dealers' hideouts across the province during the last 24 hours. Police teams registered 191 cases and arrested 197 drug pushers. Spokesperson for Punjab Police said that since Feb 26, during the campaign, police teams have conducted 42,823 raids on drug dealers' hideouts across Punjab, leading to the arrest of 20,459 suspects and the registration of 19,919 cases.
