Lahore, Istanbul medical varsities to collaborate

LAHORE:A meeting of faculty members of University of Health Sciences Lahore led by Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique was held with the faculty of Istanbul's University of Health Sciences, in Turkiye.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed for cooperation between medical universities of Istanbul and Lahore. Khawaja Salman Rafique signed the MoU on behalf of UHS Lahore. On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathor from University of Health Sciences Lahore, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Nadia Naseem and other faculty members and Secretary General and former Director General Dr Oner Guner from University of Health Sciences Istanbul, Turkiye and other faculty members participated.

The UHS Lahore Vice-Chancellor and the Vice-Chancellor of Istanbul University of Health Sciences of Turkiye gave a briefing on the educational facilities provided to students in their respective medical schools. Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique speaking from Istanbul, said that there are beautiful relations of love between the two countries, Pakistan and Turkiye.

Pakistan and Turkiye are very close Islamic brother countries. The achievements of Turkiye's University of Health Sciences Istanbul have been impressive. Turkiye's health system is exemplary all over the world. It was no less than my happiness to perform my duties as Health Minister with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, we are also trying to provide better health facilities to the people. For the first time in history Air Ambulance service has been launched for the people of Punjab. Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer and Research Centre in Lahore while Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology is being built in Sargodha. Punjab Health Department has ensured 100 percent transparency.

Among the seven medical universities of Punjab, University of Health Sciences Lahore is leading. Pakistan's University of Health Sciences Lahore and Turkiye's University of Health Sciences Istanbul are looking for further improvement of academic relations. Turkish health professionals have expressed special interest in postgraduate programmes at UHS.
