LAHORE : Diseases such as blood pressure, sugar, cancer and uric acid are spreading fast in the country.
Addressing a moot on "Hyperuricemia Spotlight Series" organised by Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman Memorial Society (MKRMS) and Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine, Hyperuricemia Advisory Council (PharmEvo Private Limited Pakistan) on Saturday, Prof Dr Javed Akram said if uric acid issue is neglected it can lead to goitre. He said if a person suffers from blood pressure, diabetes and cancer then there are fears of high uric acid in that person. He said the easiest way to get rid of uric acid is to drink more water as uric acid increases in hot season.
HAC Executive Member Dr Masood Javed welcomed the speakers and the guests and Wasif Nagi, Pride of Performance, senior editor health, education and current affairs and Chairman MKRMS, moderated the moot. Dr Aftab Mohsin said uric acid is found in beef, mutton, alcohol, carbonated drinks and seafood. He said people should consume edibles that contain less uric acid.
He said being overweight is the main cause of uric acid and it can be fatal. He said it is fine to maintain uric acid level normal and in this regard milk and curd are very useful to reduce uric acid.
Dr Soumia Iqtadar said level of uric acid in women and men is different and if precautionary measures are not taken then hyperuricemia can take place. Dr Soumia said we should consult a doctor for proper treatment and avoid quacks.
Dr Khalid Mahmood said uric acid is very dangerous and we should try to reduce the use of insulin because it increases the uric acid in us. He suggested daily 30 to 35 minutes daily walk and consumption of plenty of water. Dr Noman Tarif said increase in uric acid can lead to the formation of stones in kidneys. He said we should drink at least three litres of water in summer to maintain balanced uric acid level. Prof Dr Bilal Mohiuddin said fast food, seafood and pulses consumption increases uric acid in us. Dr Masood Javed said meat of cow and goat increases uric acid. Wasif Nagi said we should get our uric acid checked twice or thrice a year. He said alcohol consumption and foods that increase uric acid should be avoided and a uric acid patient should take their medication regularly.
