From Our Correspondent
OKARA: Okara GOC Maj-Gen Abid Mumtaz has said that India is afraid of unity among the Pakistanis.
Addressing a seminar on National Action Plan for Peaceful Pakistan at the Arts Council here on Monday, he asked the people not to provide any facility or shelter to the criminals as these criminals were always facilitators of the terrorists. He said that the army had passion to protect all Pakistanis. The army had rebuilt mosques, churches and other worship places across the country, he added. He said that the army was determined to purge the country of all terrorists and terrorism. He said, not merely in the battle field, the army was also quite capable to provide services and facilities to the people in the health and education fields. He asked the divisional and district administration heads to make full use of capabilities of the army. The GOC said that a false propaganda had been unleashed by the terrorists in Swat, South Waziristan and North Waziristan that the army would push out the residents of their houses and occupy their properties. He said that he responded to the propaganda that the army did not occupy the houses rather pushed out the terrorists from there. He said that all the serving personnel, military and civil, were servants of the state. In no way, they represented any party, group, faction or person, he added. He said that the brave people like Maj Asad Akbar and DIG Sibghatullah were martyred. When an MPA left the hall, the GOC said that the politicians must listen to other speakers instead of leaving the hall after their own speech.
Sahiwal Commissioner Asif Iqbal, Regional Police Officer Tariq Chohan, District Police Officer Muhammad Faisal Rana, District Coordination Officer Sucrat Aman Rana, MNA Chaudhry Riazul Haq Juj and MPA Mian Muhammad Munir also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, the school girls sang national songs.
Meanwhile, shields were distributed among District and Sessions Judge Malik Muhammad Arshad, Brig Irfan, Brig Ali Atif, SP Investigation Amir Saud Magsi, District Jail Superintended Noor Hassan and Rescue-1122 in-charge Zafar Iqbal. Shields were also presented to the GOC, the RPO, the commissioner, the DPO, the DCO.
