PHC asks departments to resolve petty issues of employees
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday asked the Advocate General (AG) office to convey to all the provincial government departments to resolve petty issues of the employees within the departments.
“Cases are being filed in the high court against the government departments on petty issues. Contempt of court cases are being filed against the departments daily due to non-compliance with the court orders and the court is overburdened,” Justice Roohul Amin Khan observed this while hearing various contempt of court petitions against various departments.
The judge observed that increasing number of government employees’ cases have created backlog of cases. The bench asked additional advocate general, representing the provincial government departments in the contempt of court cases, to convey the court reservations to all the government departments.
The court took notice in a contempt of court petition filed by Afrasiab, son of a deceased police officer. The petitioner’s lawyer said the high court had ordered the Police Department to appoint the petitioner as assistant sub-inspector (ASI) on quota for wards of the deceased. He submitted that despite the court orders, the department was not appointing the petitioner on the ASI post, against which he moved a contempt of court petition.
Each day there are 10 to 15 contempt of court cases in the cause lists of division benches of the high court. As per the previous records, more than 70 percent cases of the government employees or of the departments against the employees were instituted in the high court.
