Larkana funds
This refers to the news report, ‘Rs25 million of taxpayers’ money to be spent on Larkana gathering’ (March 30). The PPP has scheduled a commemoration programme in Larkana to mark the 37th death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on April 4. One cannot see any harm in observing the anniversary, for the execution remains one of the darkest chapters in our history. Yet, as revealed by the report, a Sindh government document states that Rs25 million has been sanctioned for the expenses. This is no small amount. Nobody would condone PPP’s extravaganza. Despite the party claiming that no money is being spent from the public exchequer, many will find this level of disingenuousness hard to stomach.
Need I remind PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari of the many children dying of famine in Thar? Imagine what one can buy for those poor souls with Rs25 million. That money can be put to far better use like saving lives. It is time our political parties started behaving in more responsible manner.
