ISLAMABAD: The top leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has declared Senator Rehman Malik as a “Wizard of Reconciliation’ to ending the cold war and re-opening the channels for talks between the PPP and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
According to sources, the PPP leadership has given a task to Senator Rehman Malik for reviving the contacts with the MQM last week and his efforts brought the results as both parties now have agreed to end ongoing cold war with a decision to hold talks for the reconciliatory formula. “The reconciliatory formula would be announced shortly by both the parties,” sources said.
Senator Rehman Malik is expected to visit London next week where he would hold meeting MQM chief Altaf Hussain.
Talking to The News former Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that the MQM was a political reality and in the current political scene both parties would have to play their political role.
He said that the reconciliation between the PPP and the MQM was a need of time and late Friday night telephonic contact between former president and Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari and MQM Chief Altaf Hussain was a major political development that created an atmosphere of confidence building between the two parties.
Rehman Malik claimed that it had been principally decided that both the parties would contest the senate election jointly and the MQM was also expected to rejoin the Sindh government.
