Governor lauds army for bringing back normalcy

Says country has been put on path to progress under leadership of Nawaz, Shahbaz

FAISALABAD: Governor Rafiq Rajwana has said that the country has been put on a path to progress under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Addressing the 23rd convocation of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad here on Wednesday, he said that energies and capabilities of the youth would be utilised to accelerate the process of development. He congratulated the degree holders, their parents and teachers for the tremendous success. He advised the students to serve the country with commitment, honesty and zeal.

The governor urged the agricultural scientists to address the issue of seed and low cotton production. He said that the government was taking revolutionary steps to uplift the agriculture sector. He hoped that the agri graduates would open up a new era of green and white revolutions. He said that the agriculture was the backbone of the country’s economy and majority of the population was associated with it. About the women, the governor said that they got education but did become professional, barring the country to get the fruit of their potential. He urged the degree holder female students to utilise their education by joining the professional career. He saluted the Pakistan Army for safeguarding the country and bringing back normalcy by defeating terrorism. He said that sacrifices of martyrs of the Army Public School and the Charsadda University would not go waste.

Speaking on the occasion, UAF Vice-Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the UAF was the only institution in the country, which ranked among the top 100 universities of the world. He said that about 5,000 graduates received their degrees and medals in various disciplines. He said that 30 per cent students of the UAF were getting scholarships as they belonged to the deprived segment of the society. He said that the government had funded two women hostels in the campus. The UAF VC said that the UAF was enjoying excellent relations with the world. The USAID-funded Centre for Advanced Studies in Food Security and Agriculture worth $30 million had been set up at the campus, he added. He said that the UAF had initiated the model of the cattle market. He said that the UAF had been working on cotton and seed that would help address the issue at the national level.
