Says Taliban’s non-cooperative attitude led to American attack on Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD: The American government following totally negative and non-cooperative attitude of the Taliban government in Afghanistan lost its patience and decided to intervene in Afghanistan affairs.

This was claimed by Robert Greener, former Station Director Anti-terrorism of the CIA in Islamabad, in a launching ceremony of his book “88 days to Kandahar-A CIA Diary”, arranged at the Institute of the Strategic Studies Islamabad. Robert Green was appointed in 2001-02 in Islamabad.

Lt Gen. ® Javed Alam, former Pakistan ambassador in Afghanistan Muhammad Sadiq and Ambassador Massaud Khan also addressed the book launching ceremony. Being a CIA Station Director, Robert Greener recollected his memories saying CIA Chief Georg Tenate, called him from US and informed that the US had decided to attack Afghanistan adding that decision was unexpected for him.

On CIA chief’s directive, Robert said, he informed the him about the latest and detailed situation in Afghanistan.  Robert Greener also praised ISI cooperation in contacting and convincing Taliban adding that in this regard a number of senior ISI officials had also accompanied him in visiting Kandahar to talk with Taliban. However, he said their all dialogue with Taliban remained inconclusive.

He said former Afghan President Hamid Karzai always remained in touch with the CIA that fully backed his government. Robert, however, said that US attained many lessons from Afghan war so it remained no more aggressive against Afghanistan.

He said presence of Daesh has made Afghanistan more dangerous.

He said that after achieving US designs in Afghanistan war confidence level between CIA and ISI was broken and Pakistan expressed its severe reaction over the situation. Lt Gen ® Javed Alam in his address said that being an expert of Afghan affairs in ISI he played his professional role within limits adding that it was our aim to restore peace in Afghanistan. Former Pakistan Ambassador in Kabul Muhammad Sadiq said that Afghanistan has turned into a main centre of CIA and world’s secret and security agencies.
