CJP forms larger bench for Karachi law, order case hearing
ISLAMABAD KARACHI: Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali has formed a five-member bench for hearing of the Karachi law and order situation case on March 7.
A five-judge SC bench comprising Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain would take up the suo moto action taken by ex-CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry over the poor law and order situation in the country’s economic hub Karachi.
The case would be heard after 20 months pendency in the Karachi branch registry of the SC. Notices have been issued to Salman Aslam Butt, Attorney General for Pakistan, Advocate General (AG) Sindh, Chief Secretary Govt of Sindh, DG Rangers, Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan, IG Police Sindh and Prosecutor General Sindh for further hearing of the case.
Meanwhile, the CJ has formed three benches for formed three benches for hearing of the cases in Islamabad during the judicial session starting by coming Monday.The first bench for hearing of cases in Islamabad comprises Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Tariq Pervez.
The second bench of top court comprises Justice Musheer Alam and Justice Qazi Faez Essa. Meanwhile, the bench 3 comprises Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood.It is worth mentioning here that the larger bench would hear the Karachi law and order case in Karachi and other cases for two days. The formation of benches would be changed by March 09.
