Sanitary workers strike enters 3rd day

OKARA: Sanitary workers of Hujra Shah Muqeem Municipal Committee continued their strike for the third consecutive day on Friday against non-release of their salaries for the last two months.
The sanitary workers staged a sit-in in the MC ground under the leadership of Asif Masih and Vikram. The protesters chanted slogans against the MC officials and the administration for depriving them of their rightful income. The protesters demanded immediate release of the salaries. On the other hand, MC chief officer Gulzar Ahmad said that they had released half salary of all sanitary workers on Friday while the remaining amount of their salaries would be issued within next few days.
FOUR HELD WITH NARCOTICS: On the order of DPO Faisal Rana, the district police launched a crackdown and arrested four drug pushers and recovered narcotics and wine from them.
On a tip-off, B-Division police raided and arrested Naeem Akhtar of Kot Nihal Singh with 410 grams charas while Gogera police arrested Muhammad Aslam with 70 liters brewed wine. The same police raided a farmhouse at Fatehpur and arrested Nadeem with 75 liters brewed wine while Ravi police nabbed Hassan with 30 liters brewed wine. The police have registered separate cases.
