SC restores VC of Benazir Bhutto Women University
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday nullified the Peshawar High Court (PHC) verdict and restored the Dr Razia Sultana as Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar.
KP CM Pervaiz Khattak had appointed Razia Sultana as VC but on applications moved by two petitioners Dr Shazia Yaseen and Ghazala Yasmeen, the PHC had nullified the CM’s decision and ordered provincial board to again complete the appointment process on merit. Razia Sultana after the PHC decision had approached the SC. On the directives of three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Secretary Higher Education Commission (HEC) KP appeared before the bench and apologised for the presenting the misleading CV of the candidates for post of VC. She assured the court that stern action would be taken against the section officer and other staffers who are responsible for misleading the court. The secretary said that there is no officer appointed in the HEC on deputation, adding that all officers are permanent from the Secretariat and other groups. The SC ordered the secretary to furnish report within two weeks after completion of inquiry.
