Eight agents held from passport offices

GUJRANWALA: The FIA teams on Wednesday raided and arrested eight agents from outside the passport offices at Gujranwala, Sialkot and Narowal.
On the direction of Deputy Director FIA Khalid Anees, the first raid was conducted at Gujranwala passport office in which three agents Asmatullah, Zahid Hussain and Adil – were arrested while Inspector Sajjad conducted raided Sialkot passport office and arrested Shamshad and Talat Mehmood. Third raid was conducted at Narowal passport office and the FIA team arrested Bashir Ahmed, Muhammad Shafique and Ghulam Bari. The FIA teams also recovered Pakistani passports, challan forms, bank receipts and tokens from the agents.
11 GANGS BUSTED: Police claimed to have arrested 43 members of 11 dacoit gangs and recovered booty worth millions of rupees from them.
Addressing a press conference at the CPO Office on Wednesday, Sadr SP Dr Muhammad Rizwan said a special campaign was launched against criminals on the orders of the CPO and the police had so far busted 11 gangs involved in dacoity and theft incidents. He said 162 cases were registered against these criminals in different police stations. He said the police also recovered booty worth millions of rupees from them including three cars, two tractors, 46 motorcycles, gold ornaments, 24 cell phones, 49 buffalos, 53 goats, 17 Kalashnikovs, 35 rifles, 29 guns, 12 revolvers and 222 pistols.
‘Torturing’ of a lawyer
Inquiry against PML-N candidate ordered

GUJRANWALA: Additional Sessions Judge Iram Ayaz on Wednesday directed Civil Lines police to launch an inquiry against Iftikhar Cheema, PML-N candidate for NA-101 by-election and others for allegedly torturing a lawyer at the Election Commission Office on February 22.
Mugheer Hashmi advocate, in a petition, alleged that PML-N candidate Iftikhar Cheema along with his brother Dr Nisar Cheema, UC chairman Adil Cheema, gunman Humayun and 10 others tortured him brutally for raising objections against him during scrutiny of nomination papers. The petitioner requested the court to register an FIR against all the accused. The court ordered the police to probe the incident and take necessary action.
