But we, in traffic’s rush and din Too deep engaged to let them in....

A casket of sorrow

By Tahreem Asghar

Summer has begun

But why is the wind still cold?

My heart is here

But where did the beat go?

The days begin and end

But where did the will go?

I breathe the same air as others

But why does it make me choke?

The air smells of yesterdays

But why am I weeping alone?

My heart aches

But where did the words go?

I stood in the mustard field

But where did your brace go?

I run but all the roads

I take, take me back to my mind and soul

My eyes are filled with tears

But why won’t the tears flow?

When the seasons change

Why do I feel so dejected and low?

Summer has begun

But why is the wind still cold?

My heart is here

But where did the beat go...

The sparrow

Paul Laurence Dunbar

A little bird, with plumage brown,

Beside my window flutters down,

A moment chirps its little strain,

Ten taps upon my window-pane,

And chirps again, and hops along,

To call my notice to its song;

But I work on, nor heed its lay,

Till, in neglect, it flies away.

So birds of peace and hope and love

Come fluttering earthward from above,

To settle on life’s window-sills,

And ease our load of earthly ills;

But we, in traffic’s rush and din

Too deep engaged to let them in,

With deadened heart and sense plod on,

Nor know our loss till they are gone.

Liars

By Hira Nasir

Stone hearts.

Cold stares

Unreal smiles

Fake relationships

What are we humans upto?

Pretending to be what we are not

But the questions are

Why?

For whom?

To prove what?

Only that we are liars!,

Imposters,

Hypocrites

But the only thing I know for sure is

That Liars don’t live long enough

To tell their tales.

They become trapped

In the web,

They carefully make.
