It was in June that Kensington Palace announced via social media that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, will visit Pakistan this autumn, at the request of Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Though the confirmed date of their visit wasn’t officially announced, the tweet stated that details will be advised in due course.

Recently, Kensington Palace confirmed in another tweet that the royal couple will be visiting Pakistan this October.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend a special event at the Aga Khan Centre on 2nd October, hosted by His Highness, The Aga Khan,” read the tweet, adding, “The event falls ahead of TRH’s official visit to Pakistan, which will take place between 14th - 18th October.”

After the announcement was made in June, Pakistan’s envoy to Britain, Mohammad Nafees Zakaria took to Twitter to express his gratitude and also extended a warm welcome to the royals. “Government and the people of Pakistan warmly welcome the announcement of the Royal visit by TRH, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Pakistan this year,” he tweeted. “The upcoming Royal visit reflects the importance UK attaches to Pakistan. Both countries enjoy historical links and wish to strengthen it further,” he added.

The royal visit will mark 13 years since the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, Charles and Camilla visited Pakistan in 2006. Previously, Queen Elizabeth II had visited in 1961 and 1997, while the late Princess Diana came to Pakistan in 1991.
