With #MeToo movement extending to Bollywood, celebrities finally chose to speak up on the subject and share their experiences. Out of the many names, Kangana Ranaut came to the fore and accused director of her 2013 movie Queen, Vikas Bahl of sexual misconduct and harassment. This naturally generated a response from several industry insiders including Hrithik Roshan, Sonam Kapoor and others.
Speaking about Kangana’s claim, Sonam, on the sidelines of an event, said that sometimes it is hard to take Kangana seriously as she says a lot of stuff; however, Sonam did mention that she loves that Kangana has spunk and she says what she believes.
Kangana, who was offended with Sonam’s comment, had a harsh reaction to this.
“So, Sonam has the license of trusting some women and some she won’t?” questioned Kangana. “What makes her so unsure of my claims? I am known to be an articulate person. She is not known to be a good actress neither she has the reputation of being a good speaker. What gives these filmy people right to take digs at me? I will demolish each one of them.”
Responding to this, Sonam shared an art work featuring a woman on Instagram that said “stronger together” and urged women to stand together.
“Women need to stand together!” she captioned. “Irresponsible media have misquoted me or taken my quote out of context and made other women react. All I want to say is that all I have is compassion and love for you. I’m proud of where I come from and so should every other woman or man. Let’s stand together and speak up. Let’s not pull each other down with bitterness and negativity. Love is always the answer.”
