Captain America and Black Widow to have bigger roles in Avengers 4

Writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely promise that big things are in store for Captain America and Black Widow in the blockbuster sequel, Avengers 4.

While the latest epic from Marvel Studios, Avengers: Infinity War was packed with many of our favourite superheroes, there were some omissions. Moreover, a few characters like Captain America and Black Widow were relegated to little more than supporting roles, even though both the characters featured prominently in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War.

However, Avengers: Infinity War co-writers, Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus claimed that it is exactly how it was designed. And now recent reports suggest that Captain America and Black Widow fans will not be disappointed with the blockbuster sequel.

While the characters, Captain America, the First Avenger, and the only female Avenger in the old guard, Black Widow, played a small but an important part in Avengers: Infinity War, the writers promise that Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff will get their time to shine in Avengers 4.

In a recent interview with the New York Times, the writers spoke about their original plans for Avengers 4 and stressed that they are “never writing without knowing where the end goes.“

The writers further went on to say that despite Steve and Natasha not going along for the ride when it came to fighting Thanos on an intergalactic basis in Infinity War, they “have a much bigger role to play in that second film.” McFeely added, “We gave ourselves license to pay off later.”

According to Markus and McFeely, they always knew that they wanted to end with Thanos’ climactic snap erasing half the universe. There was some conversation about moving the scene to Avengers 4, but they decided against it. Allowing Thanos to morph into this powerful being, and demonstrating that power before Earth’s mightiest heroes, allowed the screenwriters to have one movie “that went all the way to a tragic ending. And then one where mysterious things happen.”

As with just about everything related to Avengers 4, what exactly these “bigger roles” will entail for Captain America and Black Widow is yet to be known. On the other hand, the recently released synopsis for Avengers 4 reads, “A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.”

Avengers 4 is slated to release on May 3, 2019.
