The 75th annual Golden Globe Awards nominations, unveiled by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, feature the most talked about pictures, TV shows and entertainers of the year and this year “Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, Steven Spielberg’s The Post, and Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri leads nominations on the movie front. On the TV side, HBO’s Big Little Lies picked up six nominations, while FX’s Feud: Bette and Joan followed with four. Meanwhile, Fargo, The Handmaid’s Tale, and This Is Us all landed three nods,” noted Variety.
However, after the full list was announced, it was observed that not a single female was nominated for the category of ‘Best Director’ despite several worthy contenders. The snubbed filmmakers include Greta Gerwig, who helmed the witty Lady Bird; Patty Jenkins, director of Wonder Woman (which became the highest-grossing live action film directed by a woman, ever), critically-acclaimed Mudbound’s director Dee Rees and Jordan Peele, director of Get Out. Though missing from the prestigious directing category, these films earned nods in other categories.
Seth Meyers is set to host the Golden Globes, which will air live on NBC from the Beverly Hilton Hotel on the evening of Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018. The Late Night star, who hosted the Emmys in 2014 and the White House Correspondents Dinner in 2011, follows the lead of The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon, who presented the 74th Golden Globe awards.
