Everyone knows that Leonardo DiCaprio has now shifted his focus from films to the environment and is already working on a lot of philanthropic projects. Now, DiCaprio is investing in a sustainable food company called Love The Wild, which specializes in frozen seafood meals.

He explained his decision in a statement, as reported by People: “Estimates show the earth’s population approaching nine billion by 2050, putting tremendous pressure on our natural food resources. Seafood is a primary source of protein for nearly a billion people - but          climate change, acidification and over fishing are putting increased pressure on our oceans’ natural stability.”

DiCaprio explained that Love The Wild “is empowering people to take action on this crisis in a very meaningful way” and uses only species of fish that are sustainably farmed (like striped bass, barramundi, catfish and trout). “The exploitation of our oceans has left many marine ecosystems on the brink of total collapse, which is hurting our ability to harvest our seas as a reliable food source as we have for thousands of years,” he said.

Not only is DiCaprio an official ambassador for the UN, he is already involved with multiple organizations around the world that focus on sustainability through the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, established by the actor in 1998.
