With the revival of cinema in Pakistan, the music industry has gotten a much-needed boost. It has helped in bringing several names from uncertain obscurity to the limelight. One person who agrees that cinema has given music a new shine is music producer Imran Momina aka Emu, who is also one of the original members of the music group, Fuzon.

Speaking to Instep on the sidelines of the music launch of the upcoming Wajahat Rauf film, Lahore Se Aagey (LSA), Emu, who was present to support the collective efforts of the LSA team, noted that the nexus between cinema and music has led to the creation of “jobs” as well as hope for the future. “Artists are sensitive people,” said Emu. “We were going through a dark phase musically but the revival of the movie scene is changing that. It is giving artists energy and room to create.”

Emu also revealed that his band, Fuzon, is working on its fourth studio album. “The album is ready and we’re about to shoot music videos so hopefully after Chehlum, we will release content.”

The record, according to Emu, will be released by EMI Pakistan. The music producer also noted that the industry is seeing a transformation of sorts which will bear fruit in time. “When record labels and music channels shut down, artists get disheartened and wonder what should be done to rectify the issue,” said Emu. “The recession in music had a lot to do with it. But now, we do have some labels like EMI, which is legit and some others who are releasing music. A lot of music is releasing online and that shift is important to note. It’s a transformation, a transition from cassettes to streaming and YouTube and different digital platforms/gadgets. Things will improve and it will lead to healthy competition. But it will take time.”
