The 73rd edition of the Venice Film Festival kicked off earlier in the week with the premiere of Damien Chazelle’s musical La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, but that just the beginning. The festival, which prides itself for finding a balance between known names and introducing newer talent to the world, has plenty of intriguing films on offer.

Among the most prominent set of films that will make an appearance at Venice in the coming days include Amy Adams starrer, Arrival, Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Pablo Larrain’s Jackie with Natalie Portman essaying the role of President John F. Kennedy’s widowed first lady, Terrence Malick’s nonfiction, Voyage of Time, Mel Gibson World War II directorial effort, Hacksaw Ridge with Luke Bracey and Andrew Garfield and James Franco’s In Dubious Battle.

For now, all eyes are on Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander who star together in the drama, The Light Between Oceans. According to Variety, Fassbender and Vikander play "an upstanding but shell-shocked WWI" couple who are desperate to have a child after suffering through two miscarriages. Vikander's character also loses two brothers. Given their track record as actors, the film could fetch Oscar nods for both Fassbender and Vikander (who also won one last year).
