ISLAMABAD: Pakistani celebrities are coming forward to support the national hockey team for World Cup 2018 going to take place in India.

As the team prepares to leave for their participation in the mega event, Pakistan’s classical singer, songwriter and composer Shafqat Amanat Ali met the players to lift up their spirits.

Former lead vocalist of Fuzön wrote on his twitter handle, “Feeling so proud as I wish our Hockey Team luck before they leave for the 2018 Hockey Cup in India! Looking forward to our champs playing some fantastic hockey!!”

The singer also retweeted a video of him trying his luck with the game.

After the news came of team’s participation becoming doubtful in World Cup due to lack of finances and PCB declining the request of loan, PHF was relying on PM’s response to their request of funds.

Stars like Ali Zafar came forward to support the team in these times and spread awareness about the situation.

The singer and actor also visited the team on November 8 and encouraged them for the game.

He wrote on his twitter handle, “Getting some tips from our National hockey team today. We need to bring the glory back to our national sport that won us 4 world championship trophies (a record in itself). I urge the government to support them for the World Cup. -AZ”

Urging the authorities to immediately take action on the matters he wrote, “Our national hockey team has been nominated after 8 years to play the World Cup to take place in India this year for which they must leave for 21st of Nov. However they lack the support and funding. We need to cheer for them and bring back the glory to our national sport.-AZ”

However, Secretary Pakistan Hockey Federation, Shahbaz Ahmed has assured that the team will participate in the tournament and situation is not that bad.

Former skipper said in a recent interview with Time of India that, “You can be rest assured that Pakistan is coming to India.”

Shahbaz added that PHF was confident that the funds would be released shortly by PM Imran Khan.

The Hockey World Cup 2018 will be held in Bhubaneswar from November 28 to December 16 in India.
