A little Pakistani schoolgirl has managed to stir a controversy in India after being shown a brand ambassador for a cleanliness campaign.

The drive “Swachh Jamui Swasth Jamui” launched by a town in the Indian state of Bihar published a picture of a Pakistani girl on thousands of  booklets to raise awareness among people.

Indian media that has termed this blunder extremely “embarrassing” for the government, state that around 5,000 booklets and notebooks have already been printed and distributed to school children, with the girl’s face on it.

Upon further inquiry it was found that the picture was initially used by UNICEF for the promotion of girls’ education in Pakistan.

District magistrate and chairman of the Jamui district water and cleanliness committee (DWCC) Dharmendra Kumar said: “We selected the picture from Unicef website, as it looked impressive. We did not notice that the girl was from Pakistan and drawing a Pakistani flag.”

The slip-up was detected on Friday when an Indian media outlet highlighted the Pakistani flag seen on the brochure.
