Honda Accord has been crowned as the North American car of the Year by automotive journalists, first time after being nominated twice for the top honour finalist.

The 10th generation Accord has nudged out Kia Stringer and Toyota Camry for the first position.

Vice president Honda’s auto sales division, Henio Arcangeli said that the award is a representation of non-reliance on past achievements.

The Accord went up on sale last year like many other revamped car models among rising demand of SUVs.

Arcangeli calls the Accord to have risen up from the ground to great heights due to its coupe-like styling and turbo-charged engines.

The utility category was won by Volvo XC60 and Lincoln Navigator in trucks category. The panel of judges was made up of 60 US and Canadian automotive journalists.

The entries were evaluated on the basis of value, design, innovation, safety, performance, and technology.
